Gondola On A Canal In Venice

Summer 2025 Arts & Culture

Although the summer is often regarded as a quieter time of year for galleries and musical performances, there is still plenty to do and see in New York City, across the US, and internationally. This week, we’ve gathered our wishlist of exhibitions and performances this summer – we look forward to seeing how many we can check off the list!

New York City

There is a lot to do in the city this summer. First of all, there several major museum exhibitions up though August that you have to add to your list, if you haven’t seen them yet: Jack Whitten: The Messenger at the MoMA (through 8/2)Amy Sherald: American Sublime at the Whitney (through 8/10), and Sargent & Paris at the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art (through 8/3). There’s also A Lively Mind: Jane Austen at 250 at the Morgan Library & Museum through mid-September. In August, Free Shakespeare in the Park returns to the renovated Delacorte Theater with Twelfth Night, featuring an all-star cast including  Peter Dinklage, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Sandra Oh.

Hamptons

The main event of the Hamptons art world this summer is the Hamptons Fine Art Fair, running July 10-13 at the Southampton Fairgrounds. This international fair is touted by Forbes as “one of 12 most notable art fairs/events in the world this year worth investing your time and money on.” The fair features over 100 galleries from all over the world promoting the best in contemporary and modern art. Visit our sister company, Anita Rogers Gallery, in Booth 223 this year where they’ll be exhibiting work by Gary GisslerPhil HaleHenry Mandell, and Shirin Mirjamali.

In terms of galleries outside the fair, we are particularly excited to see East End Art’s summer exhibition DETOUR, featuring the work of ten local artists.

London

The National Gallery is hosting Siena: The Rise of Painting 1300-1350, a show that was previously on view at the Met in New York City. If you didn’t get a chance to see it there (or need a second look!), we highly recommend making the effort to visit.

Los Angeles

The Getty Center has a wonderful exhibition of Medieval manuscripts up through August 10. The Getty Villa reopens at the end of June and is now accepting reservations.

Paris

Wolfgang Tillmans’ show ‘Nothing could have prepared us – Everything could have prepared us’ opens this weekend at the Centre Pompidou and runs through September 22. This will be your last chance to visit the Pompidou for years; starting in the fall, the building will close for renovations and doesn’t plan to reopen until 2030.

Venice

If you love Venice as much as we do, you might look for any reason to visit the beautiful city. Last year, we enjoyed the Art Biennale and this summer, you won’t be disappointed to visit the Architectural Biennale.
