Brush Creek Ranch & Magee Homestead, Wyoming

Stay on over 30,000 acres of working ranch land and experience incredible mountain views in Saratoga, Wyoming. There you can enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities, including goat yoga, fly fishing, archery, horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking, as well as cooking classes and spa retreats. For true privacy and luxury, book the entire Magee Homestead – you’ll enjoy exclusive use of a ranch property, cabins, suites, and top-notch service. This time of year, curl up by a private fireplace in your cabin or utilize the suite’s well-equipped kitchen to cook a cozy meal. In the spring, enjoy a private terrace and beautiful views. Note that without a full buyout, the property is adults only.

Mohonk Mountain House, HudsonValley, New York

We’ve recommended this one before, but we love this option for an easy, family-friendly East Coast getaway that doesn’t sacrifice luxury or quality details. Travel to this historic property in the Hudson Valley to experience over 85 miles of nature trails, rock climbing, horseback riding, tennis, golf, kayaking, canoeing, and more. Mohonk makes every season special. In the winter, enjoy the ice skating rink, brewery nights, private fireplaces, and even a  Murder Mystery weekend. In the warmer weather, expect outdoor movie nights, lakeside barbecues, family dance parties, carriage rides, and campfire nights.

Blanket Bay, New Zealand

Located at the base of the Richardson Mountains, this resort offers the best of luxury and outdoor adventure. We recommend choosing a chalet or villa for ultimate privacy, space, and stunning views. Once you settle in, book a helicopter tour over the water or enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and fishing. For true thrill-seekers, the hotel also offers bungy jumping and jet-boat safaris. Afterwards, head back to the lodge for excellent farm-to-table meals.

Four Seasons Lanai, Hawaii

Visit one of our favorite Hawaii destinations to enjoy zip-lining, horseback riding, archery, tennis, snorkeling, sailing, scuba diving, and fishing. The hotel is very family-friendly – they even offer ropes courses and challenges for children of all ages. In addition, the five-star, five-diamond resort is home to multiple pools, a full-service spa, botanical gardens, a Nobu restaurant, and an 18-hole golf course.

Ritz-CarltonBachelor Gulch, Beaver Creek, Colorado

We can’t say enough good things about this family-friendly hotel and we are thrilled it welcomes pets as well. The area is a great one for pets as it is quite walkable with plenty of outdoor options. The hotel offers several pet-friendly accommodations, as well as treats, beds, and activity advice. Finally, should your plans for the day not include your canine, the hotel has partnered with a local dog ranch who will look after your pet until you return. The hotel offers frequent events, such as “Whiskey & Woodburning” where you’ll create your own carved coasters or cheese board then enjoy a Whiskey tasting “Collars & Cold Brews” where guests learn to leather stamp collars for their furry loved ones while sipping local microbrews. Outdoors, fly fishing is popular in this area (yes, even in winter!) and the resort has an in-house naturalist ready to take your family on guided tours no matter the temperature outside.

Octola, Lapland, Finland

You might have to book this hotel quite far in advance– there is often a waiting list – but it will be well worth the wait. Octola is five-star luxury accommodation in the heart of the Finnish wild. This year-round resort offers different experiences each season – from nature and foraging walks to snowshoeing and sledding, the property has a huge array of activities to choose from no matter the weather.
